I love what this girl is doing.  She’s an author of the Historical Fiction Slave Narrative, “Good Fortune.”   She’s a student at Harvard University.  She’s 18 years old. Tremendously inspiring

2010 Handbook

January 5th, 2010 · No Comments

I LOVE things that make you think about building character.  The following is a call to action for those who feel the same.  I got it in an email from a good friend and it suggested that I, “forward this to everyone you care about” but I don’t do that kind of thing so the best I can do is share it here [of course, I added my 2cents - #38]:

Health:
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants..
4. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
5. Make time to pray
6. Play more games
7. Read more books than you did in 2009
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
9. Sleep for 7 hours
10. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile

Personality:
11. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about
12. Don’t have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment
13. Don’t over do. Keep your limits
14. Don’t take yourself so seriously.. No one else does
15. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip
16. Dream more while you are awake
17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need

18. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with His/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others
20. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present
21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you
22. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime
23. Smile and laugh more
24. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree…

Society:
25. Call your family often
26. Each day give something good to others
27. Forgive everyone for everything
28. Spend time w/ people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6
29. Try to make at least three people smile each day
30. What other people think of you is none of your business
31. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch

Life:
32. Do the right thing!
33. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful
34. GOD heals everything
35. However good or bad a situation is, it will change…
36. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up
37. When you awake alive in the morning, thank GOD for it.
38. Instead of asking yourself, “What makes me happy?”, ask yourself, “What can I do that will excite me?”

Tech-Knowledge: What is a browser?

I love to be reminded of how clueless people can be.

I like the guy who goes to Yahoo! “just to give them some business.”

That’s pretty funny

Judy Blume Super Saturday Smackdown

June 4th, 2009 · No Comments

I like to laugh but I love things that stimulate the imagination. Therefore, the title just does it for me. Judy Blume has authored many books for  pre-teens girls to adult-women including Blubber, Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret and Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume. So to have her name and ‘Smackdown’ in the same phrase gave me a chuckle because of the bizarre picture in my head.

MMA: Gina Corano vs Judy Blume

MMA: Gina Corano vs Judy Blume

By the way, Gina Corano is one of the best MMA [Mixed Martial Arts] fighters in the world. She kicks butt daily. So after the initial picture in my head, I definitely had to see what this was about. As I did, I just laughed at myself saying, ‘What am I thinking?’

judy-blume-smackdown

I wondered how many other people had comical visions just from the title instead of the real Judy Blume Super Saturday Smackdown. I guess that was part of the plan so good job, marketing department.

There is a lesson in there: The mind can be a power entertainment tool

Anyway, check out Gina Corano:

New Breakfast

June 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

Bowl of Fruit

I’d love to improve my health. Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is something that seems as though it should be easy. At that point, getting past the frustration, I need to just break it down into smaller disciplines (bite size actions that don’t require a high level focus or vision) and take one step at a time.

So, step 1: this was my breakfast today. Cherry’s were sour but otherwise, good. Let’s see how many days I can keep this up..

..what’s for lunch?

the formula

May 28th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I’d like to define success in my own terms.  I believe this is one of the best formulas:

know – discover – desire – aspire – plan – do – learn – criticize – qualify – persist

1. know: take inventory of what is already acquired (know, learned or mastered)

2. discover: establish the existence of something different than what is known

3. desire: measure the will to know, learn or master that discovered thing

4. aspire: create a belief & vision (goal) for acquiring the discovered thing proportionate to the desire level

5. plan: create action steps to acquire the goal

6. do: execute the plan

7. learn: take inventory of  knowledge acquired from the experience of doing

8. criticize: compare what was known at the start with what was learned

9. qualify: determine if the proximity to the goal is defined as a success or failure

10. persist: repeat until desire is satisfied

There are a lot of details to this formula that I will explore in the near future.

Inspired Guitar – Ryn Leblanc

May 12th, 2009 · No Comments

I love the effect of inspiration because it makes you want.  Sometimes it makes you want to do your thing better.  Otherties, it make you want to do the thing that you are being inspired by.  That’s how I feel when I watch this video of Ryan Leblanc.  I’m definitely going to give it a try.

Wanda Sykes 1/2: White House Correspondents’ Dinner

May 11th, 2009 · No Comments

I like Wanda Sykes.  She personifies ‘real talk’. It’s good to have someone who isn’t scarred to say things most people are afraid to even admit they were thinking. Here she is at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (part 1 of 2)

And she’s funny too: “That’s not how you really practice abstinence..”
